Heavy Downpours Exacerbate Situation for Uprooted Residents of Gaza, Agencies Warn
Persistent precipitation over the recent period have intensified the precarious situation of the many hundreds of thousands of uprooted Palestinians in the region, according to relief groups.
"Awful" Conditions Poses Severe Threats
A representative detailed the weather overnight as "horrendous", with precipitation so heavy that up to 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the terrain.
"These conditions was really horrendous for the residents. The heavy rains were so powerful... And the gusts were so strong," noted the representative.
There is grave anxiety that minors residing in tents in wet attire will succumb to hypothermia and additional ailments.
Casualties and Widespread Loss
Health authorities have reported that one baby has passed away from the cold and a minimum of 11 other people have lost their lives in structural failures triggered by the storms.
Additional accounts suggest a greater death toll. Officials said that several homes had totally fallen and many others had been partly destroyed.

Relief Operations Seen as Not Enough
Organizations have stepped up shipments of tents, bedding and garments after the halt in hostilities started, but they have said there is remains not enough aid reaching those in need.
"Agencies are operating tirelessly to bring in that assistance and to allocate it, but the size of the necessities is so enormous that we are faced with many thousands of people and minors who are truly enduring hardship nightly," cautioned one official.
Long-Term Challenges and Truce Provisions
The second phase of the agreement encompasses proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the pullback of troops, and other conditions.
Relief organizations have highlighted the necessity for "expanded and ongoing humanitarian assistance to address urgent and future requirements."
The conflict was triggered by an attack in October 2023. Following campaigns have resulted in a high number of fatalities in the area, based on medical reports.
