Tragedy Occurs as Unintentional Explosion at Police Station in Indian-administered Kashmir Results in Nine Fatalities
A devastating explosion at a security post in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir has caused the deaths of nine individuals and wounding to thirty-two others, according to authority reports.
The occurrence happened when a stockpile of confiscated explosives inadvertently exploded during management operations.
Chronology of Incidents
The detonation took place on the evening of Friday at the Nowgam security post, where explosive materials taken from Faridabad region in the northern province of Haryana province were being kept briefly.
Local police chief declared that the detonation substances were pending forensic examination when a "very unfortunate" mishap during management caused their detonation at approximately 23:20 in the evening.
Authority Declarations
Law enforcement officials verified that this was an "unintentional explosion" and as opposed to a terrorist attack. "Alternative theories regarding the origin of this incident is unnecessary," emphasized the security director during a journalist meeting.
The law enforcement facility experienced significant harm from the detonation, with nearby constructions also being affected by the strong explosion.
Aftermath and Casualties
Several automobiles were "consumed by fire and reduced to charred husks, with debris scattered across the area," according to official reports.
"The intensity of the explosion was so extreme that some physical fragments were recovered from close-by residences, approximately 100-200 meters distant the security post," reported an official source.
Most of the casualties were law enforcement personnel, along with forensic personnel, two evidence documentation specialists, and a tailor who was present with the personnel.
Administration Reaction
The region's Lieutenant Governor conveyed sympathies and declared that an investigation had been directed into the catastrophic occurrence.
"I have commissioned a inquiry to establish the origin of the inadvertent detonation. Extremely pained by the death of valuable individuals due to extremely tragic inadvertent detonation at Nowgam law enforcement facility in Srinagar city. My commiserations to the bereaved families. I hope for speedy recovery of the harmed," expressed the leader on digital platforms.
